history ,[/color] on the ninth of january in the year of nineteen ninety, sebastian isaac mason made his way into the world. the thirs child to lacey and paul mason, he was a bouncing, healthy baby boy with a mop of black hair atop his head. as a toddler, seb was well behaved and graciously mannered. he grew up well taught and never stepped out of line. when he was three years old, his younger brother, frederik, was born, pushing the family of five up to a family of six. seb doted on his baby brother, making sure he was comfortable and always at the center of attention.
turning into a child, sebastian started growing up a little bit more. he started to attend school and made good friends, although his grades started slipping from top of the class to near the bottom. as he got older, his grades got even worse and his parents didn’t know what to do about him. he would act out, argue with them, never doing anything they asked him too. there wasn’t a reason behind it – seb had seen how other kids acted with their mothers, and decided he should act like that in order to fit in. at this time, he was only eight and his parents worry increased. it caused stress to be put on the whole family, and caused increasing arguments between lacey and paul. with time, lacey revealed she was in love with someone else and left paul with the kids. paul blamed everything on sebastian, for causing all the stress and driving her away in the first place. he began beating him when they were alone. this only made seb’s anger issues worse and as he became a teenager, he turned to alcohol and drugs to numb the pain.
he started drinking every night, and although the drugs never became a permanent thing, if he got really badly beaten he’d take some to make himself feel better. he knew how bad it was for him, but it made his dad disappointed in him, which was why he did it. unfortunately, everytime he went home he got a beating for it, for making his father seem bad to his colleagues. in the end, seb started to not come home at night, choosing to stay at friends houses all the time, in order to avoid another beating from his father. however, when he turned sixteen, his older sister georgia, became pregnant. he returned home to help her, and was disgusted when his father hit her. he, georgia and frederik moved out, finding their own small place. even though his sister was pregnant, it didn’t stop his bad habits and his sister didn’t like it. she told him to clean up his act, or else she’d bring the baby up somewhere else. taking frederik with her, she moved a little bit away while seb tried to clean himself up.
now nineteen, seb has gotten a lot better, though his nights of drinking are still there. he is determined to prove to his sister that he can clean up and be a good uncle to baby keon, who is just three now.[/ul]

it was five fifteen am and aspen was staring at the dark, white coloured ceiling in her bedroom, counting the swirls as her chocolate brown eyes tracked over them. the slight gap in her curtains told her that it was only just beginning to get light and, if she knew what was good for her, she’d go back to sleep. considering she’d gone to bed just three hours ago, there was no sensible reason for aspen to be wide awake at such an early time. but she just couldn’t sleep. she dozed on and off a few times but now, she found herself wide awake with nothing to do but count some stupid swirls on the ceiling of her room. turning over in bed, she flipped on her bedside light and blinked rapidly, allowing her eyes to adjust to the bright light that suddenly forested the room. her hands reached up for her eyes and she rubbed at them, before stretching her whole body and sighing loudly. her eyes cast over to her alarm clock again, finding it tell the time of five twenty two. another loud sigh emitted and sounded round the medium sized room, before the whole house fell into a deep state of quietness again. her feet fell from the bed, touching the soft carpet that lay, covering her floor. being careful to avoid the places in the floor she knew creaked and caused the whole house to groan, she tiptoed over to her door, grabbed the handle and pulled it, as silently as possible, open. she whispered down the stairs, her eyes engulfing the darkness again as she found her way, almost blindly, into the kitchen the house accompanied. the tap turned on, aspen poured herself a glass of water before downing the whole thing in one go. the glass placed back in the kitchen sink, the petite brunette girl made her way back towards her bedroom, where she perched on the end of her bed. only ten minutes had passed since her little adventure in the dark, and this emitted another loud sigh from the girl as she fell onto her back on the bouncy mattress. again, she went back to staring at the ceiling, for a good half an hour. when the digital clock beside her ticked to six am, aspen heard the alarms go off in her parents bedroom and emitted a silent sigh of relief, realising she was finally free to go downstairs loudly. as a result, aspen made her way down the stairs and retrieved her breakfast, chatting away as her parents arrived in and out of the kitchen, getting ready for work.
soon, aspen found herself logging onto her laptop, opening the chat room and entering her details to sign in. a small smile appeared on her face when she realised one of her best friends, ryleigh valmont, was already on and they began chatting. little less then an hour later, they’d arranged for ryleigh to stay at aspen’s and aspen found herself logging out, her laptop closed as she got ready to go meet the petite brunette girl. ever since she’d found out about the physical abuse ryleigh was suffering, aspen had tried to rescue her from that god awful house. she offered her a place at her own house, insisting she needed to get out while she could. but, every time, ryleigh had refused it and aspen found herself getting more and more frustrated. not at ryleigh – at her father, christopher valmont. the one causing the abuse, the pain. she knew the only reason ryleigh couldn’t escape that house was because of him, and aspen wished there was something she could do about that. but she couldn’t go to the police, no matter how desperate she was to relay the information she knew to them – she couldn’t risk loosing her best friend, not when ryleigh appeared to need all the friends she could get. there really was nothing aspen could do – except get ryleigh out of that hell hole when she could. which was how the sleepover plan had come about. and aspen was planning more then she let on to ryleigh – she was, in a manner of saying things, going to kidnap her. rather then one night, aspen would keep her here for the whole weekend. aspen didn’t want ryleigh going back to the man she called her father for as long as she could hold off, because the only thing he caused was pain. he deserved to rot in jail. aspen also figured he was doing more to ryleigh then she let on, but there was no way she would get ryleigh to admit anything else to her. finding out about the physical beatings had all been chance with aspen. but she was glad she knew, now – she would be there for her friend every step of the way, no matter if she got hurt for it. she wouldn’t be letting her friend go right now.
aspen slid her laptop back into its case and stepped into her en suite bathroom, her dressing gown slipping to her feet as she entered the small shower cubicle. the feeling of the warm water cascading down her back washed away all worries, and for a few minutes she forgot what was actually going on. as she watched the mirror opposite her fog over, she wondered if that was how things appeared to ryleigh when her father came in to beat her. remembering she needed to be somewhere, she quickly switched the shower off and stepped out, wrapping a fluffy white towel around her body. going back into her bedroom, she opened the doors to her double white wardrobe and pushed through the clothes hanging inside it, feeling the soft material between her fingers. she soon settled on speckled black skinny jeans, a purple v neck tee shirt and slipped her feet into gladiator sandals, the purple colour of her toes matching her top perfectly. slipping a necklace around her neck and a bowler cap type hat onto her head, she popped her sunglasses on, grabbed her car keys and slipped her cell phone into her back pocket. pulling off a post it note from the bundle in the hallway, she scribbled a quick note for her parents, letting them know that if she wasn’t in the house when she returned, it was because she was picking ryleigh up. she’d told her parents ryleigh was coming to stay, but she hadn’t told them exactly why – she didn’t want to insult ryleigh’s privacy, or her trust in aspen for that matter. she stuck the note to the coffee table just inside the entrance to their house, and made her way quietly out of the house. she slid into the leather interior of the car her parents had brought her on her last birthday, a smile on her face as she could still smell the new car smell inside it. feeling the engine purr to life, she backed out of the driveway and headed towards ryleigh’s house. pulling up outside just five minutes later, she honked the horn as a sign, to let ryleigh know she had arrived. aspen switched the radio on quietly, listening to it hum in the background as the engine was still running. she saw the front door open and a be drawn looking ryleigh appear from it, heading towards her car. aspen’s eyebrows creased with concern, but she kept her lips zipped as ryleigh stepped into her car. aspen, who knew her best friend well enough by now, could tell she was faking a smile, trying to make everything seem alright. but, also knowing her best friend well, she knew ryleigh wouldn’t want her to say anything about it – thus, the car journey passed them by in silence.
the finger marks on ryleigh's neck hadn't escaped aspen's notice, and she bit her lip, hard, as they reached her house, pulling into her still empty driveway – her parents weren’t home yet. she stepped out the same time that ryleigh did, and locked her precious car behind them. unlocking her crisp blue front door, they made their way into the silent house and listened to the echo of the door closing behind them. aspen threw her car keys down on the coffee table and scrunched up the note to her parents, throwing it in a woven bin beside the coffee table. emitting a small sigh, she turned to ryleigh and smiled at her. ”do you want a drink ? something to eat ?” she offered, a small shoulder shrug. it felt awkward, formally awkward. it shouldn’t feel like that between two people who’d known each other for a while, right ? aspen sighed, and placed her hand in the small or ryleigh’s back, leading her into the living room. ”ryleigh, talk to me, please,” aspen practically begged, looking at her friend desperately. ”i know you’re forcing a smile, i’ve known you long enough to see through that. i want to help,” she promised, pushing her bangs from her face. ”but i can’t do that if you don’t talk to me.”
