Industrial Abyss is a huge production company that heads music, movie and TV show projects everywhere. This is Industrial Abyss’s latest brain wave. Part contest, part reality TV, part music tour, this is the Insane Theory Music Project. Twelve unsigned bands were selected by Industrial Abyss (or a subset thereof) to participate in an epic, six month tour (broken up into two and a half month sprints with a month long ‘break’ in between), spanning the U S of A.
Next to everything is being video taped. This project is part reality TV after all, and there is a full TV crew for the occasion. They put out nightly shows (quickly cut together, nothing fancy) on the internet and after-noon shows daily on the television (on a one-day delay). See it’s a contest. These twelve bands are competing (and there will be contests… and they won’t be fun). And the world wide audience watching them is judging. The fans have all the power here.
It’s about having a balance between audience appeal and staying true to the music. Oh and of course something is at stake, what would be the point if there wasn’t something at stake here?
It’s a record deal of course, a recording contract. It’s a promise to get the winning band (the one who gets the most audience votes by the end of the tour) off their feet and into the spotlight for real. It’s quite literally the chance of a life time, the means and ability to record and market themselves to the world. Who wouldn’t want that?
There may be a band or two that doesn’t make it the full 6 months. It’s going to be grueling, and harsh. But it is the opportunity of a lifetime and maybe for some of these bands, it’s worth it.
